I transformed my garden slabs instead of getting new ones & loved the results

IT can be an expensive job maintaining a garden.

So when faced with the prospect of having to replace all the paving slabs in their garden, Emily and her family decided to go down another route - by painting the slabs.

"We decided to paint our slabs instead of getting new ones and this is how it went," she wrote over a video which showed the transformation.

From grimy slabs covered in dirt, they cleaned them up and painted them a dove grey colour - which gave the patio a chic, modern feel.

In a pinned comment on the video, Emily added: "We know it’s not going to last long term but we love it for now - we can always touch up or get new slabs in future."

She also revealed she'd used the Exterior masonry paint from Wilko for the job - £16 for five litres.

While people were quick to praise her for the finished look, some admitted they'd had limited success with painting slabs themselves.

"I done this last year and used sealer but unfortunately most of it has flaked off," one person wrote.

"Oh we did this…." a third wrote. "It flakes off but painted over again and it’s lasted.

"It will do for now."

Others insisted the risk of flaking was well worth it.

"This looks stunning!! I’m stealing this idea," one commented.

"Looks mint, even if it flakes after a year just smooth it back and re paint, well worth the effort," another added.

"Great job looks good, saved you a lot of money!" someone else wrote.
