TWO people have been rushed to hospital after a woman was trapped under a lorry following a horror smash.

The HGV toppled over on the A52 in Markeaton, Derby, this morning - crushing the woman in her BMW.

Firefighters managed to cut her free and she is now in hospital receiving treatment.

Dramatic pictures show the lorry on its side and the mangled wreck of the BMW.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police said: "There has been a HGV versus a car involved in a road traffic collision at Markeaton island.

"The roundabout is currently closed and we would suggest the area is avoided for the next three to four hours while recovery is arranged.

"Injuries are not thought to be life threatening and enquiries are ongoing.

"Witnesses should call 101 with incident number 267."

Drivers have now been told to avoid the area following the smash at around 11.30am.

The A52 Ashbourne Road onto the roundabout was closed as well as the A38 southbound as police investigated.

Six ambulances and four fire engines were also scrambled.
